It s the razor-sharp smash that critics are calling brilliant (San Francisco Chronicle), blisteringly funny (USA Today) and “One of the best films of the year… a little piece of heaven (Chicago Tribune). Why is Amazon not frank about what movies it has available on demand? You can rent at the movie store or Blockbuster but not in South America on the flood plain (I’m worried about the rain forrest).

This heavily scripted film relies too much on the script and not enough on characters. The profanity and vulgarities come at you like a gattling gun. Frankly, I got bored with the whole thing about half-way through.

Unless you want to learn every obnoxious effing word in the language, this is not for you! This is merely a political version of a fart movie. Too bad, because the actors did wonderful jobs with the terrible script. Don’t waste your time and money on this one.

Garbage passing itself off as political satire. Juvenile wit would be more entertaining than this witless
foul movie. Oh, I said a four letter word 1000 times, I’m so smart and cool. Gandolfini proves he can play
an oaf with the vocabulary of an uneducated dirt bag, again. I guess you have to be “In The Loop” to find
this “intelligent” satire funny.

I would actually give this movie two stars but… once again we have a movie where shaky camera work was employed to austensibly make the viewer feel they are somehow present. I REALLY wish they would stop this! It’s just anoying and the zoom in zoom out moments and heads being cut out of the scene were just plain bizzar with thier timing and execution. If you are a fanatic about dry British dialog you may like this film. There is a juxtaposition of the mundane daily lives of politicians as they bungle towards war and in that sense the film succeeds. However, what you end up with is two hours of very unlikable people delivering very dry dialogue and dealing with daily quibles while bumbling entire nations into war. The only truly clever aspects of the movie are the clever ways that uncharacteristically rude Brits find to insult eachother. That in itself is a commentary about the film though it did make me laugh- the only reason I would give it two stars.
I really was looking forward to a smart satyre. This isn’t it. People writing in reviews that that this is funny and intelligent are likely the snobish croud who loud merits of a work more for it’s critical stance of a government blunder than for its actual artistic merit. The movie is more of a statement than intertainment or art. If you are looking to spend two hours watching a statement and constant insults, this movie will not let you down.
I also don’t understand why people are calling Gandofini’s protrayal of the General so inventive or noteworthy. People saying that have never met a general. He is nothing like any general I have ever worked with, though I know a few that were as moronic as his character.
